1 St George's Tce., Perth = On the site which in 1894 was formerly Christian Brother's College, the Perth Taxation Office was built and now known as the Duxton Hotel.

St.George's Tce., Perth - "Government House"

The first Govt House was built in 1834 by Captain James Stirling. Pictured is the new Government House built in 1863 by convicts under the direction of Richard Roach Jewell in the Tudoresque style, and garden escarpment of Jacobean style.

In 1925 Audrey Jacob shot her lover Cyril Gidley at a charity ball at the Ballroom, they had been engaged but when he snubbed her for another and refused to talk to her at the ball, she shot him dead on the dance floor.

Stirling Gardens, St.George's Tce., Perth - "Court House Museum"

Built in 1836 and opened March 24 1837 in Stirling Gardens is Perth's oldest surviving building, designed by Henry W. Reveley the first Civil Engineer, the stuccoed walls are of stone rubble construction and cost ₤2,930 to build. It was used for worship by the Anglican Church until 1846 and dually as the Court House, also used as the first Boy's School until their own building was erected in 1854, and also by the Girl's School for musical evenings, debates and concerts. Built in 1903, designed by J. H. Grainger and built by W. F. Vincent and Sons in the Italian Renaissance style, in Donnybrook white stone and brick with cement facing with Darling Range granite foundations, the building cost was approx .₤65,000. Now Elder's Place, but before the 1860s this site was known as Dyer's Corner, after that a two storey building stood on this site and it was known as Barnett's Corner.

140 St. George's Tce., Perth - AMP Building

30 Storey skyscraper, 430 ft high. On the site that was formally known as Carr Corner, was bought by AMP in 1910, and AMP Chambers was built in 1915 and demolished in 1972. The new AMP Building was built in 1975.

125-131 St.Georges Tce., Perth. "Newspaper House"

125-131 St.Georges Tce., Perth - Inter-War Commercial Palazzo Baroque revival style, an award winning design of it's year, architect Sir J. Talbot Hobbs, the foundation stone houses in a cylinder, copies of West Australian & Western Mail etc printed on indestructible paper, and silver coins. Built on the site formally where George Shenton's portico-ed residence stood. Still with original central arcade feature, Art Deco decorated columns, timber panelled dados, barrel vaulted ceiling, terrazzo floor and large double sided historic bronze electronic clock which has been fully restored. Missing is the feature over the centre piece of the front parapet which was The West Australian's coat of arms modelled & cast in pressed cement. In 1935 the arcade housed Laubman & Pank Opticians, In 1949 the basement housed The Lattice Tearooms, & in arcade The Wee Lattice Sandwich Supply, Built in 1933. Heritage listed building. Now fully restored, right down to the inclusion of the black and white awnings on the street front. Now home to The Print Hall Restaurant and Bar, Bob's Rooftop Bar (Bob Hawke)

133 St.George's Tce., Perth - Now The Heritage Brasserie Bar Boardroom & Bobe'che Bar downstairs. Inter-War Commercial Palazzo style, built of Donnybrook sandstone. Designed by Hobbs, Forbes & Partners, costing £53,876 to build, winning 3rd prize for Street Architecture. In 1949 Royal Ins, Lancashire Ins, Legal Ins, Standard Ins, Liverpool, London & Globe Ins, Thames & Mersey Marine Ins, In 1947 Malcolm Crofts, messenger boy, had his foot crushed in the lift. Built in 1932. Heritage listed building. Now fully restored.

135 St.George's Tce., Perth - Now Trustee Bar & Bistro. Inter-War Commercial Palazzo style. Architect Hobbs, Smith and Forbes, Donnybrook sandstone clad, built in 1926. Extra floor added in 1954. Heritage listed building. Now fully restored.

8-10 The Esplanade, Perth - "Atlas Building" (Phoenix House)

Built in 1931 in the Inter-War Free Classical Art Deco style and just unveiled after a lengthy facelift 2012, originally had an 'Atlas' life size figure holding up the world globe on top of the facade which was removed in 1969, and a metal peaked decorated cornice coming out from the dark surround above the columns also the lettering Atlas Building at the very top and Atlas Assurance Company Limited below the dark surround and Accident * Fire * Marine just below the columns. The facade is of a salmon pink glazed stone, and inside the foyer are Terracotta and Egyptian features. Beautifully restored and Heritage listed.

Built in 1961 designed by Krantz and Sheldon - up until 2012 it was probably one of the most beautiful iconic buildings you are likely to see, now renovated revamped or whatever, and completely wrecked, how this was approved I will never understand.

The Railton Temperance Hotel was designed by Forbes and Fitzhardinge, five 1903 shops and half the Coffee Palace were demolished for the building of the Railton, the first Hotel built in Perth after WWII. Built in 1964. (2016 Some fool has decided all the colourful panels needed to be painted grey)

Originally two arcades, called City Arcade and Carillon, now merged to become Carillon City Arcade.- originally I think, (I am still researching), the Strelitz Building stood on this site, built by the Strelitz brothers. Featured on top of the building are the Carillon Bells, 36 bells in a glass tower which play now everyday at 1pm, a great tourist attraction. Hay St., Mall, Perth

700-704 Hay St., Perth - "Piccadilly Theatre Arcade"

700 - 704 Hay Street Mall, Perth. An Art Deco building in the Inter-war Functionalist style, the Theatre and Shopping Arcade, designed by William Leighton for Claude de Bernales and opened in 1938 with a seating capacity of 1,100. Costing 75,000 pounds. Inside the main theatre are Atlas style sculptures on the walls by Edward Kohler. Refurbished in 1984 costing $2million, and winning an Architectural Award, after this, the Theatre and Arcade was purchased by Alistair Norwood for $9.9million. In 1992 the Theatre and Arcade was sold to Winston Holdings, Su-Rama and Ayoman Pty Ltd. Classified by the National Trust. There are 3 Cinemas the original has a resident ghost, thought to be that of a customer who was locked in one night and fell down the stairs and was found dead in the morning. I myself have experienced a very strange ghostly presence while watching a movie this year 2012, an unexplained pacing up and down, up and down on the landing and absolutely nobody there at all, I actually swung around several times to tell them to stop and sit down, but there was nobody. The building is in desperate need of re-painting.

(Walsh's Cnr) - Inter- War Art Deco style designed by Talbot and Hobbs, built in 1923, former building destroyed by fire in 1921, Mr Kauffman of the Metropolitan Dental Co raised the alarm, the flames were likened to that of a Volcano, the Proprietor of the store was Sir William Lathlain Mayor of Perth. In 1927 Eliza McNeil guilty of stealing a hat, fined £5 also Frank Steet charged for stealing a bed tick. In 1928 Alison Bannetyne was fined £5 for stealing. In 1929 George Baden Lathlain employee and son of Sir William Lathlain MLC Proprietor of Economic, committed suicide by shooting himself in his car. In 1931 Harry Mason alias Young, was fined £10 for stealing a overcoat & hanger. In 1932 Robert Glover was sent to prison for 6mths for obtaining goods with a fraudulent cheque. In 1940 Noel Clarke stole 42 cartoons from Economics. In 1944 Phyllis Landsdown having stolen a frock, lied that she had been given it by Vi Barnes, she was sentenced to 2yrs for perjury and fainted in the dock. In 1946 Dorothy Smith calmly put on a new coat and walked out of Economics, she was sentenced for 2mths. In 1951 Mae Menner of South Perth, Economic cashier of the layby section for 5yrs, charged with stealing £5 and a blanket, placed on a good behaviour bond of £10 and 6mths. In 1956 a dejected figure, Doris Ingram stood in the dock, having followed a sailor over from Eastern States, had stolen 2 frocks and was fined £13/17/-. — atCnr 726 Hay and William St., Perth.

Cnr 531 Wellington / William St., Perth.Is only one of two buildings constructed in the Victorian Second Empire style, with highly decorative facade, recently restored, architect for 1894 addition - Henry Trigg, the Wellington St end was built in 1882 & the William St continuation built in 1906, architect being Hobbs, Smith & Forbes contracting G. Liebe. In 1883 John Holland hit his head & died after a scuffle with David Jackson during a card game. In 1884 Samuel Calloway was drinking at the Royal & got into an altercation & was killed by ex-sergeant of police John Houghlahan. In 1904 Frank Bray was struck and killed by James Evans in the front bar. In 1903 Prospector Frederick Newman committed suicide at the Hotel. In 1903 three Royal Hotel barmaids, Bessie McKillop, Mary Allfleck & Violet Moody were arrested for stealing from Henry Wilson. In 1909 Royal Hotel Barman Patrick Dwyer & his friend drowned in the Swan River near the Swan Brewery having a morning dip. In 1914 Frank Dixon set off crackers in front of the bar, a man had his moustache, eyebrows & whiskers partly blown away in the entertainment, Dixon was fined 40s. In 1922 Elsie Flint house staff at the Royal tried to poison herself in her hotel bedroom by drinking massage lotion. In 1946 Pantry Maid Florence Willis died in bed of Chlorodyne poisoning. The building has been returned to it's former glory with it's lace verandah reattached. Heritage listed building.

The Swan Barracks limestone tower and large drill hall behind are the oldest buildings in Northbridge. A fortress style building, built of stone by Holman and Coustin was a training centre for military, and later the Australian Army following Federation.
